1️⃣ Be the First to Apply
Recruiters often review applications on a rolling basis. If a job has been online for three weeks, chances are they’ve already selected top candidates. Use AI tools and job alerts to apply within 24-48 hours after a posting goes live.
2️⃣ Call Before You Apply
If you have any questions about the role, the team, or specific requirements, call the recruiter or hiring manager. This does three things:
🔹 Clarifies details about the role so you can tailor your application better.
🔹 Shows initiative and enthusiasm (which Dutch employers appreciate).
🔹 Puts you on their radar so they recognize your name when your CV arrives.
💡 Important note: Dutch companies usually look for candidates who already have the skills to do the job now—they are not primarily focused on potential growth. Make sure you position yourself as someone who can deliver results immediately.
3️⃣ Personalize Your Application
Never send a generic CV & cover letter. Recruiters can spot them instantly. Match your experience to the job description, using keywords from the vacancy.
4️⃣ Adapt Your CV Title & Summary
Your job title in your CV should match the job you’re applying for. Example:
- Job ad says: Customer Success Specialist
- Your CV says: Customer Success Specialist | Client Support Expert
- Not: Customer Manager (Poland) – this confuses recruiters.
5️⃣ Show Measurable Impact
Dutch employers love data-driven results. Instead of “Managed client inquiries”, write: “Handled 50+ client requests daily, improving satisfaction scores by 30%.”
6️⃣ Optimize Your LinkedIn & Be Searchable
- Your LinkedIn title should match your job search target
- Add skills from Dutch job descriptions
- Use a professional photo (Dutch recruiters value this)
- Enable “Open to Work” (Recruiters actually use it!)
7️⃣ Leverage Your Network
Referrals increase your chances by 50-70%. Find someone at the company and ask for an introduction. Dutch work culture is relationship-driven—it’s not just what you know, but who knows you.
8️⃣ Follow Up After Applying 📩
Many candidates apply and just wait. But a simple follow-up message can make all the difference.
Example:
“Hi [Recruiter’s Name], I recently applied for [Job Title] and am very excited about this opportunity. Just wanted to check if there’s anything else I can provide. Looking forward to hearing from you!”
💡 The Bottom Line?
You don’t need to be the best candidate on paper—you need to be the most visible and memorable one. The right strategy can take you from ignored to interviewed.
